Abstract
SummaryWith the young Dictyota dichotoma gametophytes, the thallus basis ablation has different consequences: 1) It slows down the apical growth by acting at the same time on the transversal divisions of the initial cell and ont the elongation of the subjacent ones; 2) it does not prevent the initial cell longitidinal division and the thallus dichotomy; 3) it extends the initial cell life time by delaying the thallus ramification; 4) it also increases the number of transversal divisions carried out by the initial cell before its longitudinal division.
