Abstract

This collection of essays co-edited by Dejan Jovic (Chief Advisor to the President of the Republic of Croatia) and Christopher Lamont (Transitional Justice Institute) reflects upon Croatia during the decade following the death of Croatia’s autocratic president Franjo Tuđman. It is in the context of an ongoing transitional process that contributors examine Croatia’s turbulent post-conflict and post-authoritarian transition with a focus on the consequences of authoritarianism and conflict. While this volume does not make any grand claims regarding the causes of conflict or transition, it does reflect upon their concomitant political and cultural legacies. In particular, through an examination of citizenship policies, refugee repatriation, cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and popular music contributors further our understanding of post-Tuđman Croatia and the extent to which the political and social legacies of armed conflict and authoritarianism continue to shape the trajectory of Croatia’s transition.
