Abstract

Crossan uses rigorous criteria for establishing historical facts about Jesus, but adds a quantity of wider material for his interpretation. Socio-economic data are not well recorded. His historical approach brings him to the conclusion that Jesus' body was most likely left on the cross or thrown into a shallow grave. He favours the use of apocryphal and gnostic texts, that he dates very early, many earlier than the synoptic gospels.
