Abstract
Previously reported data of the grain-boundary segregation of Mg in Ni–Cr–Co alloy obtained by Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and scanning transmission electron microscope interfaced with a LINK 860 energy dispersive spectrometer (STEM–EDS) showed that a grain-boundary concentration peak of magnesium appeared during the segregation isotherm at 900°C, and a concentration peak appeared also at 900°C for all specimens during 100-h ageing at temperatures of 800, 900 and 1000°C after quenching from 1220°C. In this paper, these data will be analyzed with the critical time model of non-equilibrium grain boundary segregation (NGS). It is found that the concentration peaks are induced by the critical time for magnesium NGS.
