Abstract
Many developing countries face challenges of rapid population growth and urbanization increase. This problem leads to slums formation and informal settlements, where houses are built without basic infrastructure facilities and social amenities. Sustainable housing which incorporates environmental, social, cultural and economic fabric of communities will alleviate poverty and improve quality of life of the people. The aim of this study is to identify critical success factors for sustainable mass housing projects in Nigeria. A questionnaire survey was carried out to elicit the perceptions of construction professionals on essential factors influencing development of sustainable mass housing in Nigeria, The data obtained were analyzed with the help of descriptive statistics and factor analysis. Six factors grouping emerged from factor analysis which incorporate the four dimensions of sustainability, namely, environmental dimension, economic dimension, social dimension and cultural dimension. The presence of these factors in the implementation of sustainable mass housing projects is essential.
