Abstract

The determination of the effective stiffnesses of elastic plates weakened by elliptical voids is focused upon. Some of the most popular effective continuum theories are applied in the case of dilute void concentrations. In addition, the percolation theory is applied to determine the critical void concentration for the case of both non-overlapping and overlapping voids. Finally, few unresolved issues related to the influence of the anisotropy on the critical state are addressed.
