Critical State in Type-II Superconductors of Complex Shape

Abstract

We analyze the critical state problem for superconductors of any shape. A simple example demonstrates that in the general case, a perturbation of the current distribution in the critical state propagates into the sample smoothly in a diffusive way, while the usual Bean critical state with a sharp current front is only a special case of the general critical state.
