Abstract

Estimates are made for the critical size limits of grains of detrital zircon, which is marked by a sudden change in the degree of rounding in aqueous and eolian environments. If these limits are not taken into account, and if supplemental information needed in most cases (on zircon geochemistry, lithochemistry and metamorphic history) is not used, the common practice of reconstructing the original nature of granulitefacies rocks based on zircon cores cannot be considered reliable.
