Critical Review of Experimental Studies of the Be IICore-Excited Level System

Abstract

All published experimental data on the spectrum of the core-excitedterm system of the Be+ ion are critically compiled andanalysed on the basis of Hartree-Fock calculations and computer-aidedspectrum-identification and level-optimization programs. As a result,49 core-excited terms in Be II are firmly established. Another 44terms need further confirmation. More than 100 spectral linesbelonging to transitions in the Be II core-excited term system arecompiled. Spectral regions 80–105Å and580–5200Å are covered. 13 new assignments are made, and 33old assignments are changed. 44 previously unobserved spectral linesare predicted, including 10 intersystem lines. Several experimentaland theoretical problems are outlined.
