Abstract
A competitive failure model of a bolt was established based on the clamping force recession curve of the bolt under composite excitation. By analyzing the force on the thread surface, we propose a numerical method for calculating the critical load for bolt competitive failure under combined excitation. Competitive failure experiments of bolts were performed to verify the competitive failure model and the numerical calculation method of the critical load. The results revealed that the competitive failure model can accurately predict the failure type of bolts, and the numerical calculation method of the critical load can accurately predict the critical failure load of bolts. Finally, based on the numerical calculation method of the critical load, the influence of bolt structure parameters on the critical load ratio was studied, which can provide guidance for the reasonable selection of bolt structure parameters in engineering applications.
