Abstract
A variety of important issues threatens the future of air medical transport (AMT). The recent surge in accidents, concerns of excessive crew fatigue, large medical liability awards, escalating health care costs, inconsistent interpretations of the Federal Aviation Regulations between local Federal Aviation Administration Flight Standards District Offices, care access barriers, the emergence of new technologies, and other issues all have the potential to either greatly enhance or hamper the delivery of emergency AMT services.
