Abstract

This paper analyses the European freight transport network from the viewpoint of its efficiency in overcoming severe barriers. Based on a broad overview of modern issues in European transport policy, the paper identifies various bottlenecks—at both national and European levels. Based on a survey among European transport experts an assessment of the importance of these barriers is made, using rough set analysis. In this way the critical success factors for an effective and efficient multi‐modal European network can be identified.
