Abstract
An equation for the critical vertical escape velocity causing instability or a “quick” condition in a porous medium with a free surface is developed in terms of a critical resistance coefficient. The suitability of describing a porous medium by its porosity and a statistical size parameter based upon geometric mean particle size and geometric standard deviation is indicated. Experimental data are presented.
