Abstract

The rapid descent of the fusion cross section for lighter heavy-ion systems at higher energies is interpreted in terms of a fusion entry line based on a new concept of the critical distance between heavy ions. This model reproduces well experimental data with one parameter; $\ensuremath{\hbar}{\ensuremath{\omega}}_{d}=(0.70\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.05)40{A}^{\ensuremath{-}\frac{1}{3}}$. The appearance of an angular momentum window in incomplete fusions is demonstrated for $\ensuremath{\alpha}$+$^{233}\mathrm{U}$.NUCLEAR REACTIONS Heavy ion reactions, fusion, critical distance, angular momentum window in incomplete fusion.
