Abstract

The incidents media portrays are generally accepted by layman blindly. It is important to realize that everything we see is not necessarily true and therefore, truth is not a universal term as it varies from person to person. This paper focuses on the analysis of Intertexuality and Assumption in two news items by two different newspapers (one item per newspaper) covering the same news event. The data are analyzed through CDA (Critical Discourse Analysis). The analyzed data reveal that the realities created by Al Jazeera News and The Haaretz News covering the Freedom Flotilla incident are very different from each other, and the Haaretz news reporting presents political and social bias in favor of Israel/ whereas, Al Jazeera’s news report is more authentic and presents a holistic picture of the event.
