Abstract

The Critical Decision Method is a cognitive task analysis method for eliciting expertise and decision making strategies. The two key published works describe CDM but do not elaborate well on the data analysis of the collected qualitative data. This output elaborates on the original CDM data analysis, identifies its shortcomings, and presents the Emergent Themes Analysis as an alternative technique to systematically collate and organise the interview transcripts, in order that important insights emerge, and are not lost through analysis that have a priori expectations. This technique is now being used by students and researchers to systematise their data analysis.
