Abstract

A criterion for superconductivity in highTc oxidic compounds is proposed based on a short range cooperative electron-phonon coupling and the Darwin interaction for Cooper pairing. It is shown that the small polaron stabilization energy (ep) should be less than about 0.04 eV and the system should have a metal ion for which Darwin interaction energy is large.
