Abstract
SummaryIn the ovarian follicles of european lizards part of the ribosomes is constituted in crystalline sheets associated with membranes of smooth reticulum during the hibernation. These crystals belong to the plane P4 group. The process of formation is described and the ribosome crystals of the lizards are compared both with ribosome crystals of the chick embryo and with the ribosome arrangement observed in plants during the winter rest. The hypothesis about the physiological meaning of the ribosome crystallization are discussed.
