Abstract

Britain is a good test case for claims that dissatisfaction is causing a crisis of confidence. Britain has one of the longest and most stable of democracies. The political system itself is protected by tradition, and people seem satisfied with many non-political institutions and have modest expectations. Support for anti-system parties or revolutionary alternatives is minimal.
