Abstract
Chapter 2 applies a visual approach to an analysis of how criminological theories have influenced criminal justice practice and policies and vice versa. To do this, Jon Heidt revisits the Wagner-Berger model of theory development that originated in sociology. He identifies three eras and draws upon unique visual maps (explored in his past work), linking a variety of elements including theories, historical factors, political factors, economic factors, technological factors, and professional, institutional, and personal factors. He argues the past may indicate that the future of criminology involves rethinking the value of conflict and critical approaches within mainstream criminology.
