Abstract
With the purpose of emphasizing the importance of illustration in children's literature, this article aims to analyze the representativeness of black characters, especially children, in works illustrated by Josias Marinho. He is an artist politically committed to the appreciation of Afro-Brazilian and African culture. Through the analysis of the illustration itself and its relationship with the verbal text, the methodological procedures for the analysis of the investigated works were constituted. In them, the children were portrayed in scenes of affection, receiving family support and care, practicing acts of resistance, as well as getting to know themselves better. Such results point to an advance, as they overcome stereotypes produced throughout the history of Brazilian children's literature.

Resumen: Tratando de enfatizar la importancia de la ilustración en la literatura infantil es que este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la representatividad de los personajes negros, especialmente los niños, en obras ilustradas por Josias Marinho. Es un artista políticamente comprometido con la apreciación de la cultura afrobrasileña y africana. A través del análisis de la ilustración misma y su relación con el texto verbal, se constituyeron los procedimientos metodológicos para el análisis de las obras investigadas. Los niños fueron retratados en escenas de afecto, recibiendo apoyo y cuidado familiar, practicando actos de resistencia, así como conociéndose mejor. Tales resultados apuntan a un avance, ya que superan los estereotipos producidos a lo largo de la historia de la literatura infantil brasileña.
