Abstract

Cretaceous shallow marine and freshwater clastic sediments occur in different positions in several tectonic units of the Western Carpathians. They form intercalations in early flysch deposits, in accretion complexes of the Palaeo-Alpine deformed belt, and in basal members of the Gosau “post-tectonic cover” in the Central Carpathians. They provide an important record of the little known history and tectonic development of this area.
