Abstract

The age of the North Auckland greywackes has long been a matter of conjecture. The discovery of Aucelltna euglypha at Motukahakaha Bay in 1948 showed some to be of Motuan age. In 1950 fusulines and corals were discovered at Marble Point near Whangaroa Harbour, and at Wairoa Bay and Waikare Inlet, both in the Bay of Islands, which showed others were of Permian age.
