Abstract

The CRESU (Cinétique de Réactions en Ecoulement Supersonique Uniforme) technique allows ion/molecule reaction rate coefficients to be determined in the temperature range 8-163 K. After describing the apparatus, the results are reviewed, including those for fast and slow binary reactions as well as ternary association reactions. The experimental data are compared with theoretical predictions when available. In many cases, a large increase in the reactivity at low temperature is observed.
