Abstract

Creep characteristics of reconstituted silty clay were tested under isotropic consolidation and triaxial shearing, respectively, with different pre-loading steps. The test results show that the pre-loading steps have little impact on the creep of sample in isotropic consolidation. However, pre-loading steps have an evident effect on silty clay’s creep under triaxial shearing, showing that one-step loading of shearing leads to a higher deviatoric creep strain than the multi-stage loadings along the same loading path. The multi-stage loaded specimens exhibit higher undrained shear strength after creep. The creep behavior was then examined by two different models, the logarithmic model and the hyperbolic model. The hyperbolic model exhibits better agreement with the test data, and the two parameters can be expressed in linear relationship with stress-level.
