Abstract

The as-cast characteristics and mechanical properties of 7075 (Al-5.2wt.%Zn-2.4wt.%Mg-1.4wt.%Cu), CU78 (Al-8wt.%Fe-4wt.%Ce) and Astroloy (Ni-18.5wt.%Co-15.0wt.%Cr-5.0wt.%Mo-3.4wt.%Ti-4.3wt.%Al) preforms produced by the Osprey process have been determined. Wrought products were fabricated from Astroloy and Al-8wt.%Fe-4wt.%Ce preforms. Comparisons are made with conventional IM and PM products with the same alloy compositions. Results indicate that this process is a viable approach for 7075 and Astroloy; however, process optimization is required before this process can be used to produce AlFeCe stock.
