Abstract

When art and social work join forces, we are inventing a new way of working with and relating to the people who are the object of our social intervention. Our project is based on the ancient art of classic calligraphy. We have found that by practicing calligraphy we develop and reinforce aspects related to emotional skills, positive emotions and other implicit values, attitudes and strengths we believe to be among life’s great lessons: observation, temperance, effort, patience, meditation, concentration, beauty and good taste. Obviously our intention is not for participants to become scribes; it is simply to give them an enriching experience of personal development through this noble and ancestral art.
