Abstract
The purpose of developing a hospital-wide, massive transfusion protocol (MTP) was to provide a standard for efficient and effective procurement and delivery of blood products for obstetric hemorrhage, trauma, and other emergent situations that meet the criteria for massive transfusion. The MTP also requires that the operating room, laboratory, and blood bank staff be alerted so they can provide additional support for the emergency.
