Abstract

A collaborative academic and health system partnership was developed to create the nurse executive fellowship academy (NEFA). One aim of NEFA was to foster succession planning by strengthening existing executive nurse leaders’ skills, enhancing their strategic capability to lead dynamic change. Program development was guided by the American Organization for Nursing Leadership competencies. A roadmap outlines the program development phases, including chief nursing officer interviews, design team activities, curriculum, and intervention strategies. Evaluation data showed positive results for the first cohort of participants and such data are a vital component in succession planning for developing future executive nurse leaders.
