Abstract

Augmented and Virtual Reality is being evermore adopted in various sectors with the process of creating augmentable mostly focusing on laser scanning and photogrammetry. This research presents cost-effective solutions of creating augmentable models for artefacts of various sizes, more specifically the challenging sizes of the scale of large vehicles. After testing a number of solutions in a controlled environment the ideal solution was adopted in an aviation museum and used on various objects such as a tractor and aeroplane engine. We proceeded to create a prototype for the museum, integrating the augmentable and letting a number of individuals use it so to gather feedback. After presenting the solution and overall positive user feedback to the director of the museum an interview was held to gather qualitative feedback addressing the business aspect of this solution. We are confident that our proposed approach can be adopted by young entrepreneurs willing to offer such a cost-effective solution to entities with a limited budget, yet still delivering a professional product.
