Abstract

An awareness of how metaphors are created and applied can extend our ideas about thinking, research and communication in a variety of fields. Building upon an analogy from music this paper shows how far‐reaching is the notion of metaphor; between imagination and action. For, when dealing with other people and especially children, it is the understanding of our own and of their metaphoric orientations which can be of mutual assistance in establishing and maintaining meaningful dialogue.
