Abstract
Background: The spleen has not routinely been included as an organ at risk in upper-gastrointestinal radiotherapy (RT) planning. However, there is evidence that splenic irradiation is associated with increased risk of late infection-related mortality with a mean dose >10 Gray (Gy), and particularly for a dose >40 Gy (Weil et al, 2018).
