Abstract

The Single Euro Payments Area : progress and challenges The creation of a Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) is essential to materialize the European Community’s ambition that governments are supporting since the Agreement of Lisbon. European authorities urged banking industry to reach this target and they supported self-regulation with the creation of the European Payments Council. EPC always held its commitments and respects the roadmap objectives. It works out in cooperation with the European Commission and the European Central Bank the new instruments, according to the operational needs and norms necessary for SEPA. Today, every bank has to honour this commitment and to materialize it for his customers. JEL classification : F36, G21, G28
