Abstract

Previously proposed high spin states in [sup 22,23]Na are compared with calculations from the cranked Nilsson model including Strutinsky renormalization. High [ital K] rotational isomers are proposed for [ital I][sup [pi]]=6[sup [minus]] in [sup 22]Na and 11/2[sup +], 13/2[sup +], and possibly 15/2[sup +] in [sup 23]Na. The positive parity yrast sequences in these two nuclei are analyzed in terms of the change from collective to single particle behavior at [ital I]=9 ([sup 22]Na) and 17/2 ([sup 23]Na). The systematics of band terminations in eight nuclei between [sup 20]Ne and [sup 26]Mg shows that [ital I][sup max] or [ital I][sup max][minus]1 has tentatively been reached in six of these eight nuclei, where [ital I][sup max] is the maximum possible [ital sd] shell spin for the given nucleus.
