Abstract
Angle estimation is a hot topic in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) radar. However, most of the existing algorithms are only focus on the scenario of ideal orthogonal transmission waveform. In engineering applications, however, non-orthogonal waveforms scenario is more practical. In this paper, we focus on the Cramer-rao bound (CRB) on angle estimation in MIMO radar with non-orthogonal waveforms. Firstly, the angle estimation model in bistatic MIMO radar with non-orthogonal transmit waveforms is given, and the general expression of CRB is deduced. Thereafter, the CRBs in some special cases are discussed, e.g., monostatic geometry, orthogonal transmit waveforms scenario. In addition, theoretical comparisons between the stochastic CRBs and the deterministic ones are presented. Finally, the computer simulations are carried out to verify the theoretically ones.
Highlights
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar refers to radar system using multiple transmitting antennas to emit various waveforms synchronously, and using multiple antennas to receive the echoes
We focus on the colocated MIMO configuration
Assume that there exist K = 3 uncorrelated far-field targets, the bistatic MIMO radar equipped with M transmit elements and N receive elements, both of which are uniform linear arrays(ULAs) with half wavelength spacing
Summary
Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar refers to radar system using multiple transmitting antennas to emit various waveforms synchronously, and using multiple antennas to receive the echoes. C. Mao et al.: CRBs on Angle Estimating in Bistatic MIMO Radar With Non-Orthogonal Waveforms non-orthogonal transmitting waveform, the performance of the existing high-resolution algorithms will decline or even fail completely. By utilizing the sparse structure of noise covariance matrix and the low rank characteristic of signal covariance matrix, the noiseless covariance matrix is recovered via matrix completion technique firstly [39], and uses ESPRIT algorithm to estimate DOA. This method does not need to know the correlation matrix of transmission waveform in advance. Few works focus on the CRB of MIMO radar angle estimation in the background of unknown non-orthogonal waveforms. Several special cases, e.g., monostatic configuration, orthogonal transmitting waveform, are discussed
