Abstract

Abstract Melange yarns have the advantages of energy saving, water saving and emissions reduction in their manufacturing. In order to further reduce water consumption and wastewater discharge from the source of product design, the cradle-to-gate water footprint and carbon footprint assessment of melange yarns were performed based on the ReCiPe method. The primary data of the melange yarns were collected by the on-site investigation. The results have shown that the recycled water is beneficial to reduce environmental burdens in manufacturing, and the indirect water consumed in the cotton cultivation is 35 times larger than the direct water consumption.
