Abstract

Wider use of technical glasses and glass ceramics in parts and structures makes it necessary to study in greater detail the mechanical characteristics of such glasses. These characteristics also include the cracking resistance of materials. In modern applied materials science methods have been developed and data are available for determining the critical coefficient of stress intensity Kic of diverse materials. However, there are virtually no data on the value of Kic for industrial (and therefore the most promising for rapid practical implementation) technical glasses and glass ceramics.
