Abstract

The present study addresses characterizing ductile tearing resistance of a 1 mm thick sheet of an interstitial free steel sheet using crack tip opening angle (φ), and δ5 concepts. The transferability of the φ- crack growth (Δa) data between two geometry, namely single edge notch tensile (SENT) and double edge notch tensile (DENT), was verified. For a specified thickness the δ5-Δa data can also be used as a material parameter. Cohesive zone modeling (CZM) successfully reproduced the experimentally determined φ-Δa and δ5-Δa plots for pre-cracked specimens, and confirmed transferability of the CZM parameters between the two geometries.
