Abstract
I develop a theory for crack propagation in finite-sized, viscoelastic solids. The theory is applied to interfacial crack propagation, and found to be in good agreement with experimental adhesion data. I also discuss the contribution to rubber friction on hard, randomly rough surfaces, from the opening crack propagation in the asperity contact regions.
