Abstract

In order to clarify the effects of vibratory stress of high stress ratio and high frequency on the crack propagation of sintered silicon nitride, the crack propagation rate was measured using compact tension specimens. The main results obtained were as follows. (1) The crack propagation behavior under the cyclic loads with high stress ratio and high frequency is the same as that under cyclic loads with low stress ratio and low frequency. (2) Crack closure phenomenon was observed with the high stress ratio. (3) K I max is the most important factor and ΔK is secondary in crack propagation with cyclic loads.
