Abstract
A simple single-band design of a coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed WLAN antenna is proposed and simulated. The antenna comprises a planar S-shaped element on the top of a trapezoid which rests on a T-shaped stub. The proposed antenna has been designed for WLAN applications, with a cost-effective FR4 substrate, capable of generating a single resonant mode with good impedance matching conditions. The planar antenna structure has a compact size of 30mm×25mm when printed on a substrate of dielectric constant 4.4 and height 1.6mm. The simulated results show good single-frequency operation with −10dB impedance bandwidth of 1.3 GHz and the resonant frequency of 5.62GHz. The proposed antenna radiates as Omni-directional in azimuth plane and constant high antenna gain over the operating band has been obtained. It also gives stable radiation patterns, low return loss, high radiating and antenna efficiency throughout the WLAN band. The uniplanar nature, simple feeding technique and compact structure make it easy for modular design.
