Abstract

A penta-band coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed slot dipole antenna with two comb-like metal sheets is proposed in this letter. Each operation band is controlled by a respective resonant path, and this results in high design freedom. The penta-band antenna operates at 1.88 ( $f_{1}$ ), 2.34 ( $f_{2}$ ), 2.70 ( $f_{3}$ ), 3.08 ( $f_{4}$ ), and 3.60 GHz ( $f_{5}$ ). The 6-dB fractional bandwidths are 17.68%, 8.66%, 5.59%, 11.61%, and 5.27%, respectively. The proposed antenna achieves a nearly omnidirectional radiation H -plane pattern, and the antenna peak gain is from 5.37 to 6.46 dBi. Although this letter describes a general design idea, it should be noted that the operation band frequencies could be easily tuned for commercial wireless communication systems, such as PCS, WLAN, WiMAX, and LTE.
