Abstract

We examine the CP N−1 2 models and discuss their relevance as toy models for QCD 4. Specifically, we study the role of instantons, θ vacua, and confinement in the 1 N expansion. Our results, and comparisons with other two-dimensional models, suggest that most of the interesting features of these models are peculiarities of two-dimensional space-time and cannot be expected to reappear in QCD 4.
