Abstract

Cow Green was authorised by the Tees Valley and Cleveland Water Act 1967, which received the Royal Assent on 22 March 1967 after lengthy proceedings in both Houses of Parliament. The reservoir is on the river Tees on the boundary of Durham and Westmorland (now Cumbria) and the dam is situated at about 280 m upstream of the Cauldron Snout waterfall – the largest water cascade drop in England.
