Abstract

New coronaviruses are wreaking havoc all over the world. The elderly have the highest number of coronavirus infections and the longest duration of illness, and they are more prone to acute respiratory distress syndrome, shock, metabolic acidosis, coagulation disorders, and multi-organ failure. They are also the most likely to suffer from the sequelae of chronic illnesses after recovering from the disease. The elderly have a significantly greater risk of obtaining new coronavirus infections as well as chronic illnesses due to the natural decrease of their immune systems that comes with advancing age. As a result, it is of the utmost importance to broaden the use of nutritional adjuvant treatment in order to revive the immune systems of aged patients. The findings of a literature review on the effects of nutritional adjuvant therapy and multiple micronutrients on elderly patients infected with new coronaviruses indicate that micronutrient supplementation and nutritional adjuvant therapy are essential for elderly patients infected with new coronaviruses.
