Abstract
The SARS-CoV-2 emergence, causing the global pandemic, triggered researchers worldwide to develop the safest vaccine at the earliest. Previous studies have portrayed a high degree of similarity between the SARS-CoV (2002-03 outbreak) and SARS-CoV-2 (2019-till present). Till 22 December, a total of 233 vaccines development projects are being executed, of which majority are in pre-clinical phase and few in clinical stages. Of all vaccine development programs, various subunit, protein vector & DNA vaccines candidates were efficacious in pre-clinical studies but only few reached the clinical trials. The most developed vaccines so far to reach out to the public (UK) are PFIZER (BioNTech), Moderna, AstraZeneca and R-Pharm Germany GmbH vaccines. This review aims to collate all the vaccine candidate approaches towards this deadly virus and try to discuss a few concerns and challenges currently posed to the worldwide vaccination drive.
