Abstract

At the beginning of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, age more than 60 years, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus have been identified as the major risk factors for severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The knowledge about COVID-19's immunopathogenesis has been increasing rapidly. The pathogenicity of COVID-19 is not restricted to the respiratory system, and a relevant inflammatory response producing systemic involvement was associated with the severity of the disease.
