Abstract

This study aimed to assess the levels of social isolation, depression, and quality of life among university students in the COVID-19 new infectious disease crisis situation, and analyzed the mediating effect of depression in the relationship between social isolation and quality of life. The study surveyed was 199 university students in K and C regions, using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson’s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using IBM SPSS Statistics 24.0. As a result of the study, the depression of college students was higher in the female. The higher the subject's social isolation and the higher the degree of depression, the lower the quality of life. Additionally, the study revealed a completely mediating effect of depression on the relationship between social isolation and quality of life. Based on these results, the study suggests strategies are required to prevent social isolation and improve quality of life in university students, and the need for intervention to prevent and manage depression.
