Abstract

ON THE COVER: Filaments of the new genus Kraftionema allantoideum photographed with differential interference contrast optics. Mature fi laments on the left are comprised of allantoid cells or bicells arranged loosely within a capsule, appearing as a string of sausages. At the center of the image, a bicell has divided to produce 4 cells with abutting walls. Large, distinctive pyrenoids with surrounding starch sheaths are obvious. Photo credit: R.
