The SARS-CoV-2 has caused severe structural damage to the nasal mucosa. The image related to the article by Zhili Zhang et al., in which the authors report highly efficient SARS-CoV-2 viral infection and production in human nasal mucosa. Further examinations suggested that human NECRS nasal mucosa is particularly susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection, presumably due to an increase in ACE2-expressing cells and a deficiency in antiviral immune response. Therefore, patients with NECRS may be at a particularly high risk of viral infection and transmission and close monitoring should be considered. Volume52, Issue8August 2022 RelatedInformation
